Ola Electric in trouble in Maharashtra

In a recent interview with CNBC TV18,Maharashtra Transport Commissioner Mr. Vivek Bhimanwar discussed the inspections conducted against Ola  Electric
showrooms in Maharashtra, particularly addressing allegations surrounding their compliance with trade certificate regulations. The inspections were prompted by complaints received by the Honourable Minister of Transport. A total of 34 premises in Mumbai related to Ola Electric were investigated, revealing that they lacked the necessary trade certificates to operate. As a result, these premises have been sealed, and 36 scooters have been impounded due to non-compliance with the Central Motor Vehicle Act. The conversation also touched on a discrepancy between Ola Electric’s reported sales figures and the actual registration data on the Vahan portal. As the situation evolves, further actions await based on responses from the respective registering authorities and ongoing investigations into the company’s operational practices across various states.

Mr. Vivek Bhimanwar’s insights reflect a critical juncture for Ola Electric amid regulatory challenges that could define the future of electric vehicle operations in India. As the market for electric vehicles grows, adherence to regulatory norms will prove vital for business stability and consumer trust. The ongoing investigations and potential repercussions serve as a stark reminder for all stakeholders in the sector to prioritize compliance, transparency, and accountability across their operations.
