police personnel, who responded to a fire at the Judge's residence on March 14, handed over their mobile phones to the Delhi Police for investigation

The investigation into Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Varma has intensified after five police personnel, who responded to a fire at his residence on March 14, handed over their mobile phones to the Delhi Police headquarters for examination. This inquiry, led by a three-member committee of judges appointed by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, follows allegations of a large sum of cash being found during the incident.

The police officers, including the station house officer and several constables, were summoned by Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora to cooperate with the investigation. Reports submitted by the New Delhi district police indicate that the emergency call was made by the judge's personal assistant and that fire services arrived before the police, taking around 20 minutes to extinguish the fire.

Justice Varma strongly denies the allegations, claiming that no cash was present at the scene after the fire was extinguished. In a related development, the Supreme Court has recommended his transfer to the Allahabad High Court, heightening speculation regarding the implications of the ongoing investigation.
